Urban Street Tree Mapping

This work was carried out as part of a Research Internship at the Department of Environmental Planning of the City of Reykjavik, from May to September 2023

  • Trees provide habitat for local biodiversity, strengthening ecological processes (Liu and Silk, 2022)

  • Trees improve urban air quality, manage stormwater and increase carbon sequestration (Song et al., 2018)

  • Trees and green space can contribute positively towards the physical and mental health and wellbeing of a city's residents (Van den Bosch and Sang, 2017)

  • Trees in Reykjavik provide a buffer from winds, and diversify the landscape.
